Web Casting

Webcasting is something that has become increasingly popular in the last few years. Many organisations now use this method to hold their meetings and conferences. Essentially a webcast allows a meeting or conference to be held over the Internet. This means that any shared documents that are required for the meeting can be shared through the Internet; this service also allows video to be shared and this therefore means that all participants in the webcast can see each other. This service has become popular within the majority of large organisations and it is commonly used in organisations where there are offices located in numerous different areas.

There are numerous different webcast services available, some are free and some cost money. The free services are usually a web based version only and this means the webcast is held totally through an internet browser. Webcast products that are paid for will usually be software based and these will be downloaded onto the desktop. In most cases an organisation will purchase a webcast product and distribute across the whole organisation; this ensures that each person can access the compatible product. There are many benefits associated with having webcasts and they are now a common piece of everyday business.

Most businesses have introduced webcasts in order to reduce costs within an organisation. The recession has meant that there is a need to dramatically reduce the costs within organisations and cutting down on travel is a simple cost to reduce. Meetings or conferences that would have previously required many people to travel from many different locations can now be held without anyone travelling. The webcast in many cases is much more practical than people having to travel a large distance to a meeting. A worker from an organisation based anywhere in the world can be involved in a webcast with ease.

Some webcast products will allow communication through talking and some will only allow it through typing. In many cases people will use a webcasting service and teleconference service at the same time. A webcast allows numerous different interactive services; for example it allows people to vote on different topics and it also allows questions to be asked. One person will usually chair the webcast and this is the person that has usually organised the webcast. As well as being used for meeting an conferences the webcast service has also become popular for delivering training.
